Pilates can be as good as frequent fitness routine for general back pain
Pilates was discovered to be as good for lessening lower back pain as a regular fitness regimen, a study found.
Lower back ache affects millions of people and in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's "Health, United States 2006" account, lower back ache was among the most common pain-related objection. But as the authors in this investigation stated, there is debate about which is better for pain relief: broad exercise or specific, individually suggested workouts.
Australian investigators randomly allocated 44 people to a Pilates program and 43 people to a general fitness program for six weeks. All ranged in age from 18 to 70 and had been dealing with constant general back irritation for no less than three months. In general the research participants were a little overweight, had a lengthy history of back pain and about a third were using medication for their problem.

group received personal direction based on their needs that included exercises on the reformer and trapeze apparatus and emphasized exercise movement accuracy, breathing control, trunk stability and posture alignment.
The regular exercise team were given common exercises that included cardiovascular exercise, stretching, strength training and body toning and resistance. Subjects in both groups were also given workouts to do on their own at home.
They were given questionnaires at six, 12 and 24 weeks that pertained to pain and function and general health-related quality of life.
After six weeks both subjects demonstrated substantial improvements in pain and disability in contrast with the start of the investigation, but the Pilates group had a small edge over the regular exercise set.
At the start of the experiment the authors thought the Pilates subjects may see more improvements than the regular health group. The similar outcome, they say, could be due to the case that some subjects with lower back ache might react better to Pilates fitness than others, but the subjects were very similar to note differences. Additionally, because both workout routines included back exercises they might have been too much alike.
