Share 'Producing Questions'

So i have always wondered because i have no idea...What kind of Software and Hardware do Producers use to create Samples and Beats for Rappers to use.. All and Any Input would be appreciated I'm just trying to get a better understanding of it all. Do most of them just use their laptops and a program or what?
