Permalink Reply by Living T on September 13, 2011 at 8:58pm Jay Rock didn't get a positive reception from a lot of Strange fans at first, too. Then he went and put out a great album, and now you don't see as much hate for him anymore.
In other words, give him a chance, let him release an album on Strange, then feel free to judge.
Permalink Reply by Jake Stocker on September 13, 2011 at 10:06pm BLH has been active since the debut of 24 Deep in 1993. His album, Loaded, was released in 1997, a year in which the music industry sold more total albums than the year after, when Young Bleed's gold album was released. If it was about the time period, then why didn't Lynch go gold, too? You can't just say, "It's because of when the album was released" when both were rapping at the same time. If your argument discredits Young Bleed, then it also makes Brotha Lynch Hung look even WORSE by comparison.
Jake Stocker said:I 100% agree with everything you stated, minus the albums sales, ect. You gotta think Bleed sold that many at a time when people would buy damn near anything. It's still good shit that he went gold, but being a rapper and going gold in that time frame doesn't have the same effect. Theres just so many that went gold around then.

Permalink Reply by skog on September 15, 2011 at 12:06am BLH was more of a power move than Young Bleed? SMFH. Lynch is more prolific, but he's only cracked the hip-hop top 10 once (Loaded at #9). Bleed had a #1 hip-hop album that reached #10 on the overall Billboard charts. Lynch brought a solid connection to the west coast underground. Young Bleed is an established vet in the dirty south, which is currently the capital of hip-hop. Bringing him in expands the Strange Music market footprint in a way that's even bigger than bringing in BLH was. Just because you like Lynch more doesn't make it more of a power move.

It's not like sales don't count because they were helped by branding. Strange fans jock Lynch all the time, but that's mostly because of the music he makes. Obviously he's going to have the bigger name among Strange fans, because he's part of the same niche market. However, Young Bleed has the bigger name nationally, and he brings more to the label by bringing in his No Limit and dirty south ties.

Not to take anything away from Young Bleed, but those album ranks you speak of were strictly from him being affiliated with No Limit. Pretty much everything No Limit released that year hit #1 on the Billboard R&B charts. If Lynch were on No Limit I'm sure Loaded would have hit #1 too. Young Bleed still had a local following in the South, comparable to what Lynch had in the West so its pretty even, Lynch just has the more recognizable name.
Permalink Reply by VIP on September 15, 2011 at 2:57am Never in my life have I ever heard someone say "oh shit, this album got a Young Bleed feature? I'm coppin that!"
Spot on, Skog. Take away the No Limit logo and what has he done?
For fuck sakes, Master P put out the 10 year old's (Lil Soldiers) and a stripper (Mercedes) and even that shit was top 10.
And I don't mean to hate on Bleed, he had some good songs 13 years ago, but business wise, I don't see any positive.

Permalink Reply by Cody Kaufman on September 17, 2011 at 1:48pm Are you serious? Bleed is a vet in the game and his CD will be in all music outlets. You young whipper snappers need to brush up on hip hop vets, lol.
