Permalink Reply by Dukecityspecialist on February 2, 2010 at 7:36pm I'm definitely not talking about them being timeless, or the impact they've made.
Just the fact that they are on way too many "G.O.A.T." lists, in my opinion. Dukecityspecialist said:Both got way more hyped up then they should??? In what sense are you talking about?Maybe if they were put on numerous "greatest lyricists of all time" lists i could see your point. But when it comes to timeless music then by no means are they overrated. There is a HUGE difference between a great lyricist and a rap artist.I think ppl forget to seperate the two.Lyrically both Big and pac have been outshined on thier tracks but that doesnt nesseciarily mean that who ever can rhyme more complex than them is the better artist.Take method man for example. He is easily the more complex artist when you consider the literal dynamics of rhyming. But when it comes to emotional complexity and cultural impact ,it becomes a no brainer that Pac has meth by a long shot.Ppl forget that Pac was able to write and record hiphops arguably most flawless and most successful double disk lp in hiphop history in only 2 weeks. Not to mention the rest of his catalogue which includes classic upon classic release.Jay z,outkast and a handfull of other artists have been able to release top calibur albums within thier careers as consistently as Pac but pac's entry and stay into the limelight only lasted about 4 to 5 years untill his death.Thats insane if you ask me.Lemme use one of your favorite mc's in the same way.Artists like the entire slaughterhouse rap group are more complex rhymers than Brother Ali if you break down the structure of thier rhymes into the basic categories like alliteration, wordplay, metaphors, similies, and types of delivery. But when it comes down to who is better at making full rap albums with better concepts ,deeper/cultural importance and who is basically sonically superior? Then my money is spent on Brother Ali first and foremost. But music is all personal preference and thats just my opinion.

KirbyTheAlmighty said:Not a Pac or Biggie fan.
Both, even though they're decent, have been overrated for a long time.

Permalink Reply by Ricky Schroder on June 21, 2011 at 1:29am Honestly why are tupac and biggie so well talked about with rappers like tech n9ne alive? Pac and Biggie sang a few good songs... Tech fucking kills it in every single song he sings.
Permalink Reply by Lil Evil on June 21, 2011 at 1:42am Well speaking for myself, Pac had something special no sure but he had grabbed ppl to listen to his music and also was more different than most rappers in the 90's and i think he changed rap for the better in my eyes. Biggie alot of ppl say one of the best becuase of his lyrics but he did have lots of time between those 2 albums (3 yrs about) so he took his time i think. Now tech he has somehting special like pac not has much but its there and he know he raps with pain on some songs like pac did thats y i love both pac and tech but he had soemthing pac didnt lyrics and he release albums year after year sometimes 2 a year. So anyway here are my ranking
1.Tech N9ne
2.Tupac(was my 1 till i heard tech)
3.Biggie
this for ur list

Permalink Reply by Malevolent Mike on June 21, 2011 at 5:42am Tech and Pac are tied in my book.
Tech N9ne for his lyrical mastery, Pac was probably the most poetic rapper ever; and I like Biggie, he's not one of my favorites, not disrespect to his talent...just not as my style as others.
