I did not find any info in the search bar about this. All you weed smokers, or people who follow politics should know about this important piece of legislation. July 23, 2011: Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act of 2011 or HR 2306 Introduced By congressman Ron Paul, would remove the schedule 1 label of marijuana, and make it a states decision on the drugs legal status. Prosecution from the federal government would only be allowed if an arrest was made to an individual transporting between to states borders. Contact your local representative and ecourage him to support HR 2306 today.
So what do you think? will the bill be passed? what are your thought on the bill? is there another way you would handle it? would it be beneficial for the drug to be legalized? i think this is a legitimate topic for political and general discussion...
YOU CAN READ THE FULL TEXT OF THE BILL HERE----

That's an absolutely ridiculous claim. What percentage of employment in this country is due to SS, Medicaid and Medicare? I guarantee it's terribly small, and the effect would be nowhere NEAR "catastrophic." Government employment makes up less than 8% of all jobs in this country, and that includes the military and the post office, as well as all civilian employees at the federal, state, and municipal level. If you think getting rid of those three governmental budget anchors would dramatically impact that statistic, you must be delusional. Besides, government jobs aren't as good for the economy as private sector jobs. It would be a better idea to create incentives for the private sector to create more jobs and take over this role.

On another note, Ron Paul is an idiot. Explain how the US will work with
0% income tax. Explain how people will settle with the removal of
Social Securty, Medicare and Medicaid, all of which
are immensely popular? ...............................Not to mention the unemployement would go through the roof, if these shut down.....That would be catastrophic at best. :(

If there was no Medicaid,SS, or medicare.....there would be homeless single mums, all doctors would private bill however they wanted per visit aswell as all medication pricing would soar out of the hands of former Medicares control, private health insurance (forget it) usually only covers 25% of hospital + all surgery related expenses. .. .......Your employer would need to dress you in a bubble wrap to avoid any injuries.............Imagine the Death rate if managing sickness/ injuries wasnt an affordable option for anyone but the rich !..........................Catastophic ????????????????????

Which part???.......also when everything is privatized, theres no people power/ goverment control over like your amenities for example, and on the employement side of things everyone becomes subject to a workplace agreement, were you basically flag your rights so even the unions cant help you from being a SLAVE, God Dam It !! Wake Up Son, for fuck sake !
All of this notwithstanding, if Ron Paul became President, he wouldn't have the power to get rid of these programs single-handedly. That's why the United States has a separate bicameral legislature to make its laws. He would simply be responsible for upholding the Constitution and the laws of this land to the best of his ability as the leader of the executive branch. There is no other candidate who understands this role of the Presidency better than Dr. Ron Paul. He is the only candidate who has framed every single one of his arguments from the perspective of the Constitution instead of big business or the Bible. Clearly, he's not going to be right on every issue, but he's a great advocate for decentralization and responsibility in governance.
And marijuana should be legal and regulated by each state as they see fit.
Permalink Reply by a tie a on September 2, 2011 at 4:33pm Sales taxes hit the middle and poorer classes a lot more than the richer people int he country. and 0% income taxes would deprive us of IMMENSE amounts of money. in no way is that going to be sustainable
Taking those programs won't be a step in the right direction. Removing SS is literally a robbery, taking the money we all payed into and doing what with it now? Where is the popularity? Just because a bunch of clown ass politicians yell about how we need to do that shit doesn't mean it's popular. The Tea Party, and in this case i'm referring to the people not the politicians, don't want it taken away either. If you looked at polls, you'd see those programs are the LAST things that people want cut, and 70% generally support these programs. There are already doing fine, so there is no point of taking them out

"No income tax" doesn't mean "no taxes." It simply means the government wouldn't take money out of people's paychecks. There's other alternatives for collecting revenue, such as a national sales tax, to collect revenue proportional to consumption, and capital gains taxes, to collect revenue from dividends on investments.
Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security are all popular, but the movement to abolish them or drastically cut them is gaining a lot of strength, as shown by the rise in power of the Tea Party. Not saying it's an ideal solution, but, if the government were to abolish them, it could open to door to new replacement alternatives. Nobody's thought of anything close to an effective way to reform these three programs, so maybe starting from scratch could be a good idea. That's not really what Ron Paul is arguing for, but at least he might take us in the right direction.
Regardless, calling Ron Paul an idiot is not only an ad hominem attack, but completely incorrect. He is a medical doctor who received his M.D from Duke, one of the most effective grassroots fundraisers currently in the political community, and he predicted the bursting of the housing bubble back in 2002. You might not agree with his specific policy ideas, but at least he tries to shape his policies around the future as he sees it instead of the next election.

I give him props here though because he's fighting for something that makes sense

Abolishing the federal government's role doesn't necessarily mean privatizing. The great thing about the United States is our system of federalism. Getting rid of the involvement of the central government would allow each state to develop their own plans specifically tailored to their unique needs. Ron Paul's stance is that the federal government's involvement in SS, Medicaid, and Medicare is unconstitutional, which, if you read the Constitution, it actually is. It's not a statement on the morality or ethics of the program, it's a stance that this country should abide by the rules of the game. If the people really want these programs to be run at the national level, it should be done the right way, starting from scratch with a constitutional amendment and a new framework developed from the lessons we've learned. However, people always assume that, if we get rid of these three programs, that'll be the end of it and the American people will be fine with just letting the poor get sick and die. Hardly. Abolishing these programs will create a vacancy which the American people will find a way to fill, most likely with a more effective solution.
