and the sooner everyone comes to terms with it, the sooner we are able to move forward. We will be able to educate our children without religion barricading the amount of knowledge a new generation of people can possess. Religious texts are filled with one-dimensional ideas and they expect followers to be obedient and nothing more. Obedience is all that religions profess, and if you are disobedient, you are damned. If life is a so-called "test" of one's faith, then how is it fair if all tests are unequal? Obviously, all tests of faith are unequal, because Jane Doe could have been born to atheist parents, and in turn, making Jane a newborn atheist, while Bill was born to two evangelical parents who worshiped God everyday, making Bill an automatic saint. These two scenarios are completely different in every way imaginable, and it would be silly for a "God" to test someone's faith in such a way. Also, the Bible does not give a particular age for the Earth. However, most Christian scholars believe the Earth to be around 8,000 years old. If anyone has ever opened a science book in their life, you would know the Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old based on radiometric dating of some of the oldest rocks on the planet. The sad thing is is that religion still attacks science, despite of how advanced and concrete it tends to be. Another sad thing is that it is impossible to disprove that a god exists, because the theory of a god runs on an unfalsifiable hypothesis, meaning I can't falsify it no matter how hard I try, because supposedly, God is an ethereal, invisible, and untouchable being. How am I supposed to prove such a thing doesn't exist? It is the equivalent to me saying that I have an invisible, ethereal, and untouchable baby dinosaur with me at all times. No one can disprove that. My opinion is that religion was an old-fashioned form of law to keep everyone in order to achieve happiness in the "afterlife" which no one really knows anything about.

contact with the dead doesn't have anything to do with the existence of a divine being as far as i know of...

i don't see the devil. i see bullshit happening every day.

why should it be a WHO. it could be anything beyond our imagination that created all of it. Why God? because that's what you BELIEVE. I personally don't believe that at all, but hey that's up to u. that is the question that's up in the air

Not believing in God is weak? that's the most ignorant comment i've ever heard. so the weak don't turn to God when bullshit happens? i'm not trying to accuse u or any1 else of being weak, but seriously? and DEVILS work? hey, how bout God and the Devil are both the same entity that we separated so people can worship a righteous figure so we can feel better about what is being worshiped? because God seems to let the Devil do a lot of bullshit

thats a bunch of bull shit, there is a god and ya'll can do whatever and say whatever u want cause i have seen and talked to the dead.. And i know there is a being of some kind bigger than us. Seek god in ur own way u dont need anyone to tell u how to believe and how to carry on in life..We all have free will thats wut god gave us.. So i think all u peeps that dont believe just have been monipulated by one of satans millions of games..And just have an ignorant point of view and just stereo type everything based of a few tests. well who u think created all the elements and DNA, And atoms, energy,Matter ET???? sure the hell wasnt us were clueless but clever..Thers no scientist or man that can explain wut i have saw, and the crazy shit i been thru, open ur minds motha fuckas ur just doin the devils work. ur all weak...
I'm a little disappointed by the amount of bashing I've seen on both sides, although both sides have their views and points that they deem "correct" or w/e, like many have said, no one will know, so I'll just throw this out there that I'm atheist and GawgyG and others did a great job at defending atheism (although it couldve been done with less bashing) and i respect the Christians and religious people who came on here and defended their views, although I do not personally agree with them, it doesnt hurt me to admit that they might be right, but so could we, and so could every other religion out there, or even a religion thats not around yet lol, point is, believe what you want, Im going to believe what I want, dont bitch about it and I wont either, I'll gladly have an intellectual and mature debate with you about it, but other than that stfu and go back to bumpin' that N9na yermsane?
This is why you don't discuss politics and Religion with PPL. Just turns into a Shitfest.

Yeah, that's why my responses have dwindled down so much. It's hard to argue with all this insolence.

Hope you read my response, don't need a direct answer to it but thought I made a good point for the other side.

You do realize if you read the bible, we're currently in the book of Revelations, and it really is foretelling things.. like the twin towers. Look it up. Lol.

and that's not to bash you, just a hardcore fact. I myself don't believe in religion. I do have faith in a god, but religion itself is what gets people in trouble, not faith. it's people fighting over their specific religion against another that starts wars. Not faith. Let's say religion 1 has faith, but so does religion 2. It's not their faith that they're fighting over, it's their specific ideas about their particular god.Faith is a fantastic thing that has never brought about a war. But religion and differences in ideas have caused so much bloodshed that I believe it's time for everybody to realize that you're god isn't so different from somebody elses. every religion is correct and I think you should have faith in each and every one just as much as you do any other.

THEN AGAIN!!!!

I would like to bash one single religion.

Scientology. You're wrong and completely ignorant. I'm fairly certain just about everybody can agree with me on that one. If you don't know what they believe, please dear GOD (in question. Lol.) Google it and laugh with me. It's fucking hilarious. Nice get rich quick scheme, though. Gotta give the main dude props on that. Lol.

K.. that's the end of my rambling... not quite as articulate and I had hoped, but you gt the general idea.. Lol.

Jane and Bill aren't born equal if Jane is born with a birth defect and dies within 7 days. Bill has an advantage over Jane, because Bill will already be taught that God is the answer to all questions, making his life so much easier, while Jane would have to jump a HUGE obstacle in order to convert to Christianity. They aren't born equally. No one is. Religions DO expect people to blindly follow, because all religions (specifically Christianity) boil down to whether you have faith. Faith is EXTREMELY dangerous, because it is an ignorant unsupported belief in something that is extremely doubtful. Christianity DOES pledge ignorance by the act of faith. Science questions religion, it doesn't attack it. Science makes all of the unknowns of the world known, while religion leaves the unknowns up to God. Religion doesn't question science, because it can't. Science is fact. Religion is faith. And honestly, the reason I'm bashing religion is because people need to learn to get over it. It's OLD news. Probably one of the best lies ever told. All the mysteries that we had before were answered with religion, now they can be answered with science. Why does the sun rise every morning? God's not responsible for it. The rotation of the Earth is. We found this out a long time ago. Another mystery solved. And it's funny that the text written in the bible was limited to the knowledge of the people of its time. If it was a truly HOLY and all knowing book, it could have at least foreshadowed some of the shit that was to happen in the future, so people could be like damn, these people knew what the hell they were talking about.

Ill address this from a Christianity point of view because (even though I am not a Christian) it is the religion I know the most about.

1. Religions do not expect their followers to blindly follow. Yes, they want them to follow basic ethics that are essentially the same as what society expects. Thats about it. You dont have to go to church, pray everyday, or anything else. All you have to do is believe in God and repent your sins.

2. Even if you break every commandment multiple times, that doesnt mean you are going to hell. If you believe in God and repent your sins, you still go to heaven.

3. Your test of faith scenarios make no sense. Jane and Bill are born equal. Doesnt matter if one is born from devout christians and the other is crack whore satanists.

4. Religion attacks science and science attacks religion. Look at shit objectively.

5. The Bible does not make an exact reference to how old the earth is and it certainly never states that it was 6,000, 7,000, or 8,000 years old.

6. Its not impossible to prove that God exists. Its difficult as hell because some people just dont accept facts and evidence but its not impossible.

7. The difference between a baby dinosaur and God is that God is not a physical entity. Example, someone says I have God in my heart, they do not believe that he is literally in there.

8. Religion is not law. It is an ethical guideline for people to live their lives by so that society can live in a civilzed manner. The stories are designed to teach a moral lession. Just like the ones from Greek, Rome, Aesop, Buddha, etc.

9. Who really gives a fuck what other people believe? If I want to teach my kids about ethics and morallity by introducing them to religion, how does that affect you? Does it effect you in any way that my mom prays before she goes to bed? Does it hurt you to listen to a prayer about people who have been hurt and killed? No, but a child who is not introduced to religion as a child is more likely to act unethically and have problems with the police as they get older. Not always but there was an actual study a couple years (and it was not done by the Vatican or some shit like that) that came to that conclusion. Who cares what people think? Ive seen a shitload of threads bashing religion on here but Ive never seen a thread bashing atheists. So who is really the cocky, arrogant, dumbasses here?
i've heard a lot of 9/11 prophecies, but none in the Bible. what are the exact quotes/passages?
"And he waited a thousand ages for the response, alas to no avail." Sorry I'm channeling the spirit of Nostradamus, but yeah there is no direct reference to it. Revelations is an extremely symbolic and convoluted writing, may be true or not but basically nobody fully understands it all.
