IMO, this will be the breakthrough album for Tech, it's a shame that it will take all these features to do so, but I guess thats how society works, I cant think of anyone that deserves independant platinum status more than Tech, I will admit I was a little hesitant to get excited about having alot of mainstream artists on a Tech album but I have come to a relisation that this meens we will have a legit argument with MTV rapper fans that Tech was slept on all along, and we as OG fans can celebrate in knowing we beat everybody to the punch!!! Tech is about to join the short list of independant platinum selling artists!!
Well done Tech and good luck bro!

Not happening. Let's face it, Tech's averages under 50,000 in his first week of release. Just because he has a bunch of names all over his album does not mean he's going platinum. Just because we know about Busta and Wayne being on this album doesn't mean that anywhere near a majority of those artists' fans know about it, or care. Wayne fans are used to Wayne on everybody's shit.
The last few people to go platinum in a week were Wayne and Taylor Swift. Maybe Eminem, I don't really remember. I know Relapse only sold something like 6 or 700,000 in the first week. Now, this "breakthrough" album may bring a lot of mainstream attention to Tech which will hopefully lead to platinum status over a period of time. But this album is not going platinum in it's first week, or even in it's first month. I love Strange Music and I think Tech deserves to go double diamond before the album even makes it to the record store, but I don't see him going platinum with this album, not for some time.
It rarely happens anymore, across ever genre. The industry is failing, why do you think they want to change platinum to 500,000 sales instead of a million?
Permalink Reply by Bloodstepp - Bass & Bubblegum on March 24, 2011 at 8:04am I don't see why you would say "Tech is about to join the short list of independent platinum selling artists" when the release of Killer marked his one millionth album sold, making him the first independent music artist to do so in history. Meaning Tech started the list and has already gone platinum. So in turn this thread becomes pretty ridiculous... Do some research bro.
RIAA Certification of 500,000 units: Gold album.
RIAA Certification of 1,000,000 units: Platinum album
RIAA Certification of 2,000,000 units: Multi-Platinum album
RIAA Certification of 10,000,000 units: Diamond album

Permalink Reply by Landon on March 24, 2011 at 8:16am Platinum? No. Gold's a stretch, actually. 500k? Took Tech like 3 years to sell half of that for Absolute Power. Now of course he's got a bigger name and fan base now compare to then, but in order to even get near gold, he's gonna have to 1) promote this album for awhile. Not drop it, do one tour after this upcoming one, and call it a wrap. That would be disappointing news for those waiting for Kabosh, but you can't just give arguably Tech's biggest record yet just a few months promo. 2) radio play. All these people talkin about Tech "blowin up" or "goin mainstream." He's gonna either need at least ong big HIT, or some decent radio play across the board. 3) more press. Someone actually get Tech on Kimmel or Fallon, for example. Bottom line: Gold isn't completely out of the realm for this album, but some really not usual shit is gonna have to happen for this one joint alone to sell 500k.
Come on dude......im all about being optimistic....but going Platinum? Hell, even going Gold is a big stretch. All 6s and 7s definitely has a chance to be his highest selling album, but come on. Lets keep it in the realm of reason. If he sells more than 50,000 the first week, ill be ecstatic. I feel like way too many people are getting carried away by this album from the features. It's still a Tech N9ne album, which means its still being marketed to by Strange Music to Tech N9ne fans. Which, unfortunately, there are not enough. This album could definitely set him up for a shit ton of future success, though.
I agree. People need to hold their horses a bit. Getting way too carried away. Although I'll be sure to buy 2 copies.
