Okay so I went through the search and found some topics but nothing really what I was looking for with Street teams so I started this one, and besides they were kinda a mess. This is for the ADMINS/TECH SQUAD LEADERS/STREET TEAMS/MAYORS/ALL POWERFULLS/or whatever you title yourselves. I thought it might be a good idea for a place for a leadership roll call from the squads. I know how alot of yall are from the myspace TECH SQUADS, like NY, NOR CAL, Spokane, COLORADO, AZ, ETC. I've seen posts from others looking for their squads and how to get in touch with them and maybe what they have been doing, promo ideas, events attended, issues, SNIPES and such. SO this could be the place for that and for others looking for the squads of thier states. I'll start.

Idaho Tech Squad has received their promo packages for the Scoob/Strictly Strange push and are finishing up Genius/Sickology we will be out this weekend and the coming week hitting the Boise area. We have about 6 to 8 members at a time usually to hit the streets and friends of those members helping those squad memebers get the job done. I'm scheduled to promo at a lowrider show this saturday and will hav emy 64 ready to go once again. I did the Northwest motor fest boise car show over the July 4th weekend with 10,000 or so people attended the 4 days of the show of 2,000 plus cars. We were there making the Strange known for the event. We have also used the promo tiles and attached them to wood stakes for road side signs and have worked pretty well (Like the Politicains do for elections). We also have are usuals of SNIPES, stores, records stores, etc out there. We also helped with the tour that just came through for Souljah from the western part of Sickology tour as he just finished up his tour date here a couple weeks back. As admin of the Idaho Squad for the hard work of the squad I got them embriodered polo shirts with strange music on them so when they are out to the radio station etc we have a cool professional look to get us in the doors. That is where we are at! S.L.A.D.A.N Where yall at?

Just got this wanted to pass it along. Thanx to Cleveland

Most people think that being an active Street Team member is easy work. It's true that it's not terribly difficult, but it does require quite a bit of dedication, effort, and time to get the job done right. There are also some things that must be done at the request of the label to prove that the materials are being distributed and not just sitting around collecting dust. To make things easier on those of you who might be interested, we have provided some Street Team guidelines. Please read the following guide and use it to help you decide if becoming an active Street Team member is a task that you are fully willing and capable of taking on.

Digital Distribution of Materials

An easy way to get the word out is by utilizing the internet to its fullest. Social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and even Twitter are great for this. You simply send comments and messages to all of your friends (or the ones who you believe might have an interest in Strange Music) with a digital copy of the promotional flyer. If there is further information, such as ticket prices for shows, contacts for tickets, locations to order albums, etc, it is always nice to include that information in your message. You can also search for random fans and send promotional information to them and expand upon your network this way. Most message boards and some city sites have areas where you can submit your own events for promotion. If you have your own website or blog you can add the promo information there. You can add it as a signature on email or message boards or even your cell phone. If you know of internet radio shows that accept calls in from the public you can call and advertise on the air. There really is a lot that can be done to promote digitally.

Physical Distribution of Materials

In order to successfully distribute materials you have to be willing and able to get out there, everywhere, and make your mark. By vehicle or by foot, whatever works best for your area. Building your base route is done by trial and error, and with every promotional campaign, it will grow. You simply begin by starting with the obvious spots in your area, adding them to your route, and then expanding upon it by finding new places as you go along. There are a whole lot of locations that you can go to hang up materials. Local stores with community bulletin boards are great. There are more of these than you might think, you just have to go around and find them. Many places will allow you to hang posters on their glass windows, in which case, you can hang them up double sided on the inside so that they are visible from both the outside and inside and protected from the elements. Some locations that I know of off hand that will allow you to hang posters are the Exchange, Drug Mart, Hot Topic, and Convenient (and family owned convenience stores). Most schools have bulletin boards as well, so visit your local college and if you know someone in a local high school, ask them to hang up some materials if they are allowed to. Colleges are GREAT for exposure because they are usually filled with numerous community bulletin boards, you just have to take the time to walk the whole school and find as many as you can. You always want to ask if there's any doubt about having permission to hang materials up. The displays should be as neat as possible; hang the posters and cards evenly using either clear tape or staples depending upon the surface you are hanging them on.

Traffic poles at busy intersections are a great place to hang materials. You want to be sure these are in spots where they can be easily seen and read, though. Places with a lot of foot traffic or where vehicles stop close enough to read are ideal. Areas around bars and clubs where people with an interest in Strange Music may frequent are also good places to look for.

The small card fliers can be used in a variety of ways. I always suggest leaving several of these with every poster that you hang up. I just tape or staple them in a neat row alongside the poster for people to take if they are interested. When hanging cards, start from the bottom up; this method is the most efficient and also best for creating a nice display. You can leave small stacks of them in public areas such as cafeterias, break rooms, some restaurants, laundramats, pretty much anywhere you can think of. It works great to set them near the beer or snacks at a party. Just walk up to people and hand them out or stick a card under a car's windshield wipers if you think the owner of the car might be interested. Some clues to help you reach the target audience are to pay attention to the music you hear people playing and the logos they're sporting. Some of the obvious ones are Strange Music, Psychopathic, and Subnoize Records, but don't limit yourself to just those labels, be creative and observant. You want to be careful that you aren't wasting the cards, as supplies of them can be limited at times; don't just walk around and put one on every car in the parking lot unless you're at a location like a club where the majority of car owners are likely to be interested in Strange Music. You risk a good deal of them ending up in the trash and wasted by doing that. I usually keep some on me all the time just in case. Stick them in your own car windows, or hang them up at work. The possibilities are many.

If you have friends willing to help, let them! Don't make them do your job, but if they are able to take some materials to school or work and distribute them, or if they know people who they're pretty sure would be interested, give them a few posters and fliers and see if they pull through. And if they are interested in becoming a part of the Street Team, encourage them to contact the Team Leader for their area for more information.

Perhaps one of the most important details when it comes to distributing the physical materials is PROOF. The label requires proof that these items are getting out there and that their money is not going to waste. What this means to you is that if you wish to be a member of the Street Team who is responsible for passing out materials, you must be willing and able to provide photographic proof of what you do. Digital camera, cell phone camera, it doesn't matter how, but you MUST take pictures when you hang up or leave materials out and send them to your Team Leader to forward to the label. This is a fairly simple request yet we have found that a lot of people have a problem with it; they will either say they are unwilling up front, or promise to take the pictures then not follow through. If you wish to be a member of the Street Team and be eligible to receive physical materials you must follow through with this procedure every campaign. If you are not willing or able to take the pictures you can still easily promote online if you wish; all help is greatly appreciated.

I have included some example photos of materials in the group photo album so you have an idea of how to distribute them and what kind of pictures you are expected to submit. I have more pictures on my personal page for those who would like to check them out.

Also, please be aware that all materials are for promotional purposes only and that while it is ok to give a few away to friends who are Strange Music fans, under no circumstances should money exchange hands for these materials. They are free to people who are interested and it is our job to get the word out, not put money in our pockets by using what Strange Music has provided for free.

If you have any questions or are interested in becoming an active Street Team member please do not hesitate to contact the Team Leader for your area as detailed below:
