Doing an argumentative paper on Tech's "Mainstream going him vs. him going mainstream" and would like to include SERIOUS opinions and beliefs on this matter to include in the paper for different views. This is an opportunity to put everyones opinions and how they see the label going. Any input appreciated. (P.S -Any interviews/videos you think may be good post those too)

RevoltingAries - See though, my point exactly you just gave me an opinion of what you think mainstream is.

Mainstream is just what gets the most attention by the mass media and pop culture.  I think Tech will definitely be considered in the mainstream in the future if he keeps on going the rate he is at.   Is that a bad thing?  No as long as he stays true to himself, his lyrics, and his fans.

No I just gave you an image of what the mainstream is. I have no opinion about it. The mainstream is whatever the industry thinks will sell the most. Period. And for hip hop and rap that is the hardcore gangsta getting bitches image. For female singers it's different. Why do you think Madonna, Lady Gaga, Rhianna, even Nicki Minaj all have the same "HEY I'M A FUCKING WEIRD CRAZY CHICK" image going on? Because that's the image the industry is pushing right now because it sells. That's all mainstream is: the artists who are backed by all the money of the industry to fit the image that they want. Success has nothing to do with being in the mainstream. If Tech N9ne had all the money of the major labels put behind him and the full marketing force of the industry behind him like Jay-Z does, Tech N9ne would be fucking massive in the mainstream. This has nothing to do with my opinion, this is just how it is. There is a reason why Jay-Z and Kanye West and Lil Wayne are so famous right now, it's not because masses of people prefer them over something else, it's because they are okay with promoting the image that the industry wants and get's the massive exposure only the Major Labels AKA the 'mainstream' can give and so they put all this money behind these artists making them look like the 'coolest' and 'most gangsta' and so the duped masses get brainwashed into loving their music. The mainstream is whatever the industry says it is. It's not an accident. Music is made to be stupid and washed down because music has the potential to spread powerful messages and uplift people, so the industry uses it to spread a fake image of being 'gangsta' so that they can sell that lifestyle to millions of teenagers across the country who then not only buy the records and go the shows, but also spend tons of money trying to emulate these artists. It's big money when you have tons of kids willing to pay rip off prices just to own 'Jay-Z's' line of clothing. It's all a game my dude. The whole point of the 'mainstream' is to sell a lifestyle. It's not my opinion it's just the marketing tactics the industry uses to make money. You promote the image of some rapper being the greatest and most badass and suddenly you've got millions of kids running out to buy every piece of clothing and accessories to emulate their 'favorite' artist. Look up Prof. Griff. He used to be in Public Enemy, back when hip hop was still legit and wasn't about selling an image and lifestyle. He knows the truth cause he was in it and has done the research. The 'mainstream' has nothing to do with what's popular, though sometimes the industry will hop on the band wagon of what's popular you'll notice that they always direct whatever trend is popular back to the images and messages they want to promote. The industry has an agenda to dumb down the youth and corrupt them with false values. Why do you think Tech said in Be Warned "Never will the Nina name any names, But uh mothafuckas wantin Nina to sell his soul for the price of fame, Fuck that with a big dick! Never will I get wit a mothafucka tryin to get the millimeter twisted!" Mainstream is something that is created and defined by the industry and the corporations who stand to make a profit off the lifestyle they sell through music. Not my opinion.

Mainstream is what's popular in pop culture case closed.  Of course big labels help because they market your stuff like crazy.  When Tech has songs being played on the radio, music videos on MTV and BET, songs being played in the club, and you just plain out see him everywhere that is when he has entered the mainstream.  All he has to do for this to happen is to get a shit of people to buy and share his music then the radio, MTV, and everything will catch on.  He doesn't need to sell his soul to become mainstream though it does help A LOT but that's why I like Tech, he wont do that.
