I write for my high schools newspaper, and I wrote a small story about the first show here in lincoln for the IGT. let me know what you think
When the doors to Pershing auditorium opened on Sept. 15, over 2,000 fans rushed into the arena to get their spots on the floor to see a man who has dominated the underground Hip-Hop scene for nearly two decades. Tech N9ne and Strange Music put on a show that would be hard to top, even for mainstream hip-hop artists. Lincoln was the first stop on Tech N9ne’s Independent Grind Tour, which teamed up with superstars E-40, J-Rock, Glasses Malone, and other Strange Music acts in Kutt Calhoun, and Krizz Kaliko, who have shared the stage with Tech since 2000. The Independent Grind Tour will go through Oct. 30, performing 44 shows in 47 days, traveling through 28 states, and covering both the East and West coasts.
“The crowd was loud from the beginning and raised the intensity increasingly until Tech finally came on, and like always, he didn’t disappoint,” said East senior Jackson Lauer, who attended the Sept. 15 concert.
Throughout his career, which began in 1985, now 38 year old Aaron Yates (a.k.a. Tech N9ne) has stayed true to his Kansas-City roots, consistently shouting out to the Midwest in his music. Performing around 200 shows each year for the last four years, Yates has gotten his music to the people by constant touring, the way it used to be done before the Internet and before illegal downloading.
What sets Yates apart from any other major hip hop artist is the respect he shows for his dedicated fan base, and the time he takes to thank everyone who has had a part in his music or his career. Tech N9ne has been said to put on the best live show in Hip-Hop, so if you missed Tech and Strange crew this time, you can almost count on a return either in Lincoln or Omaha within the next year, Tech N9ne never seems to stop moving, or returning to his Midwestern roots.
