Ok kiddies Im back with a post that might actually make us think of something other than the corns on Tech's pinky toe.This took me a while to think of because I have been going through a month long brain fart(like 99% of this websites population that posts)but anyway I hope you see things the way I do because "anything less would be uncivilized".So let's get this bitch started.
When I look at the state of hiphop today I cant help but think of the fans also.What I mean when I say "hiphop today" as opposed to 10 tears ago is the mainstream hiphop that we all love to hear on the radio day after day repeat after fuckin repeat.What has changed within the past 10 years you might ask yourself.Well one big obvious factor is the amount of unit's that an artist pushes with each major release.The market's sales plummeted just like our once great economy has within the past few years.The last hiphop artist to go plat within a week was Lil wayne if Im correct!!!Damn that was a while back and it doesnt seem like anything's going to change anytime soon.So what's the cause of all this mainstream distress?Is it the lack of talent?Is it the recession itself?Or is it because we as fans and consumers have become spoiled babies?Well it couldnt be because of talent.Take any polished M.C of our present time(ie.Tech N9ne,Crooked I,Eminem,Immortal technique) and put them up against the likes of an artist one who was prominent in the game 10 or 15 years ago who isnt today and see what happens.As far as the recession goes that argument doesnt hold any water simply for the fact that you have 3rd world artists going multi platinum in thier own country that have been dirt poor for centuries.Now we are confronted with the "baby argument".What i mean by this is that in this "age of information" that we seem to be living in ,we have become over stimulated like a single woman who uses a tree trunk for a dildo.(sorry for such a graphic description) But hey its fuckin true!!!!With an endless amount of information ,news, music , blogs, movies and free porn seated directly in front of our fingertips(dont know why i included free porn) we have access to any and everything in the world,and boy do we take advantage.Especially when it comes to music.In this day and age "these here internets" give us a heads up on whats hot and whats not in the music industry(those ungodly album leaks).Now we are blessed with an infinite amount of tracks without even stepping one foot inside of hastings.The notion of driving to your local record store is just about dead and gone but everyone seems to have thier ipod filled to the brim with months of good music.Come on, 80 fuckin gigs!!! So I guess my question is what can you possibly give someone who has everything?With all these handouts and goodies being given out at no charge I think we as consumers have become babies who expect everything and give nothing.Taking,taking and more taking becoming numb to music that was once thought of as jewels or jems but now they get played for a few days then discarded to the bottom of the toybox untill the next time they get unburied or stumbled upon like a bored child digging through what used to be thier favorite toys.Now they are considered throwaways since the new 100 toys are within a buttons reach.To quote Tech "too much of anything is a crime" and the way we skim through years of hard work in just a couple of minutes on the net turns us into babies stuck on the bottle.There are hardly any gems out there in our eyes and we are stuck with just a bunch of leaks and downloads.Dont get me wrong Im not against looking for new artists and material but can we atleast do it in moderation.Take a break from mama's titty and take a drive to your local music outlet and try spending a couple of hours if you have to find something.If you cant find a sure thing than fuck it take a chance.You just might come up on a couple of jems,maybe not a certified classic but a couple of jewels hidden on an album that you probably will appreciate a hell of a lot more than just something that was just given to you as a freebie.Maybe if we start taking chances and coming out the pocket for the type of music were searching for , even if its an album with only a handfull of bangers the owners of these major labels might start marketing something else other than what the 13 yr old girls spend thier allowance on.Cause when we wait for leaks just to decide whether or not to buy an album the probability of actually buying the album decreases or disappears cause we were given what we were lookin for and the songs that we do like get thrown on the shuffle and the others discarded and no purchase takes place.Then certain sounds arent marketed because it isnt "monetarily sound".This causes a chain reaction within the industry and the outcome is what we have today.NO FUCKIN VARIETY.We are fed what ever is marketable and the ones spending money often enough are the ones who go buy an album for one fuckin song.I wonder what that song could be???Thats right the song that gets played on the radio 300,000 times a day.Im going to stop now cause i could go on all day and allready started to go into entirely new discussion.

Its not necessarily about the internet its more about the american culture in general.I mean look at it this way.America has fat poor ppl,not to mention some ppl who are considered poor somehow some way still have an xbox 360 and comcast cable. We are a nation of mega consumers who dont know when enough is enough.When we are given everything nothing is appreciated and taken at face value.The same is said within this discussion about the rap game.

I'm kinda pissed you decided to stop. That was turning into a very good argument, and something that needs to be revised and finished. When you put shit down like "tree trunk for a dildo" and "free porn at our fingertips," you need to not apologize for such graphic descriptions and to not tell us about how you don't know why you included it. Makes your statement sound less credible and like you really aren't sure if you should have included it or not. Confidence is the key, whether its on paper or a verbal conversation.
You were giving an incredibly good outlook upon downloaded music, and honestly halfway convinced me to drop everything I'm doing, go to the Ave and dig some crates. But only halfway, you lost me at 300,000 times a day.
You're absolutely right: We have abused our right to music, and now albums like Killer and Shadows On The Sun have become action figures on the bottom of the box. They've become reruns of Fresh Prince, chocolate a week after Halloween. 80 fucking gigabytes!!! Imagine how much you would appreciate that music if you actually paid for all of it. What if you couldn't find any song you want at a click of a button? What if all you had was that damn discman, a 24 sheet cd wallet, and as many PAID FOR albums as you could fit into it? Then maybe you're given the option to make mix cds, comprised only of tracks off those paid for albums, that top out at 80 minutes. The 90s...GOLDEN ERA!!! When listening to music was a hobby, when listening to music was a TRADE. No, not the OnDemand kind where you get what you want when you want curtasy of 5 million anonymous users. No, I mean the trade where you spend your life meeting new real life people who enjoy the same music as you, physically trading albums like sports cards. Then when the homie calls you out on the disc you been keeping in your ride the past 6 months, you finally give it back, only to make a trip to Sam Goody to buy your own copy (along with a couple other new cuts you notice while you there).
But now, we have access to anything we could ever imagine. Everybody wants to know what kind of music I listen to, so I take a side. Now that I've chosen hip hop, I gotta label myself a "gangsta rapper," or an "underground rapper." I've downloaded every NWA cd, every 2pac cd, every Too Short cd, and every DMX cd ever made. They all on my ipod right now, which is currently in my hands. In a few days, I will have listened to every song, and now that I've heard it all, I gotta download every Jay-Z cd, just cause I can. In fact, I can't flip through these songs fast enough. When are we gonna be through so that I can move onto Lil Wayne?
Pretty soon, believe it or not, I will have downloaded every album I can possibly think of, and now I just leave my ipod on shuffle. In fact, I'm just gonna start listening to my favorite songs off each album, weed out everything else...ok now we have successfully insulted everything these artists have spent there entire lives building. Not only is the movie not worth paying to see, but it ain't even worth staying the whole way through!!! Chaos
Now every album is like a public bathroom, fans walking in and out, even when they ain't gotta piss, just somewhere to go and stir up trouble. Flushing down the original lyrics and then shit all over the beat. So much traffic in and out that signal flow is lost and bit rate drops. Poor tags makes the wall look like a prison cell. Everyone and they mamma's touched the damn thing but ain't nobody wash they hands. And when did everybody start talking at the urinal? Show some respect and shut the fuck up when a classic playing...
Anything can be good in moderation. But the fact that 90% of 80GB iPods out there are full of 100% illegally downloaded music, shows me that I have a very long road ahead to becoming a successful recording artist. Even when I finally get my music on the shelf, even after they purchase it and put the poster on the wall, chances are no matter how amazing I sound, the album will slowly become just another B in your iPod. Another handful of songs you can't stand to hear anymore because you deleted the less enjoyable songs a long time ago and have been playing the same shit on repeat for years now. We're free now more than we could have ever thought possible. With that freedom comes responsibility, and with that responsibility comes discipline. Here in lies the question in whether the government should be able to punish those who do not pay for their music. All I know is, when I was younger, I had the idea that any music should be made available to any person at any time. I'm older now.

Wow, Cosign! You're totaly right. I have not even noticed the change in my life untill now. I used to do this and I used to look foward to new music like an eager child waitng for a chirstmas to come. When I finally got the CD I would borrow it for a long time like you described and then buy the damn thing myself. Alot of times, if I didn't borrow, I used to hear only one or two singles before I bought the CD and had no clue what the rest of the CD held for my eager ears.
Now I download leaks and pirated versions to make sure the CDs are worth my money. I realize now that when I do this, it takes away from the actual expirenece of listeing to an actual CD for the first time...expierencing the artwork, looking through the blooklette, reading and studying the pics...all this whislt listening to the disc for the first time. It's a feeling, to me, that cannot be replaced and I have single handedly ruined that for myself in the past couple years
And I totally agree w/ you on everyone shitting on classics. People download them, play them, forget about them, once loved them, now hate them. After all that, good songs get uploaded onto youtube just so people can shit on them again and others who can't find the song to download will get a YouTube downloader and converter so they can put the songs on their iPods.
The industry has changed quick with the advent of internet and increasing technology. If we didn't have the internet with all this information at our fingertips...would we even be listening to the same music? Would the industry be marketing the same music they are now? Would other artists be on top? It's all very possible. The internet has changed more than the music industry however, and will continue to shape our culture as well as our ideas and attitudes. It's all a ripple effect of the information age....I believe that in the end, for the most part, only bad things will come of the information age, first, in entertainment, and then politics...and could lposibly have a hand in ore be the cause to world destruction or devisation...

The information age has created so many wonderful new inventions, aided in creating cutting edge technologies, has helped us make alot of money. But, where there are people doing good, their are people waiting to make personal gains off of that good...and in the music industry here we have the fans stealing music and treating songs like an old stretched out sweater they don't want to wear anymore, DJs who will only play music that they have been bribed to play, and executives only marketing music that preteens will buy because they are the biggest spending market causing them to shun real talent and pick up gimmic rappers.
When most of us here say "FTI", check yourself and realize that you may be part of this process that has been destroying music since the information and internet age came around. Things aren't as crystal clear as they appear to be...so the next time you jump on a forum and type "FTI" make sure you're not downloading a Chamillionaire Mixtape while listening to your pirated version of "All Eyez on Me" on your iPod for the 100th time while uploading all of Tech's new songs of his new CDs to youtube (even after there are already vids of the exact same song you posted) while downloading the new Cashis CD along with 3 other leaked albums...you might just be part of the problem

i dident read this whole thing but its all in what ppl are into now a days i guess like for me im from nova scotia canada i never herd of tech n9ne till i moved to b.c ( a much more bigger city ) and what im getting at is that theres soooooooo much candy rap out now its every where now im sure if tech was played a million times on the raido then ppl would listen to him but they dont it takes a certen type of person to listen and like tech music i guess now a days ppl can relate to candy rap there sooooo many under ground rappers that get slept on such as

i think the internet is killing music in general,mostly hip-hop i must say since i havent really found a site that has country music bootlegged (havent't looked either and don't plan on it). it could be because stores really drive up cd prices in some cases,but the counter arguement to that is itunes which offers all cds 10-12 dollars, i went to an FYE store awhile back to buy a 50 cent cd (when he actually had good music) and saw the cd for like 25 dollars and found the same cd with bonus songs for 12 on itunes. so really i think it comes down to whats already been said the laziness of people and also people will do anything to save a buck, even if it means killing the thing they love.

Yeah bmc those little "apologies"and extras added in the middle were my pitiful attempt at humor to try to get the reader to stay interested. I cut it short because I already know that half the motherfuckers who saw a post with more than 20 words would not even bother to read this discussion unless it was about how infatuated I am with Tech n9ne.But just like what was said by a couple of us on this thread whet it comes to us as fans becoming numb to the music and worrying about getting more ,more, more.It seems that we are more worried about what is dropping next week as opposed to what is already on the shelves.I wouldnt say the internet is the main culprit in this situation its just the american culture in general.We all seem to be worried about getting the newest shit like cars,clothes,flatscreens,ipods,iphones, and anything else that we really really want but dont really need.Thats how this country was built and is ever so evident when we look at the rap game among other things.When is enough enough ppl???When you give a baby everything in the world at the drop of a hat that same baby keeps expecting more and more without the need to ask or even desire.Turning into a selfish ,spoiled asshole who thinks you owe him or her the world just because they are used to getting whatever thier little hearts desire without hearing "NO".Meanwhile in some other countries there arent any welfare programs,govt assistance or shelters and our poor population looks like fuckin donald trump when compared to them.So when does this cycle of un-greatfullness stop?When ppl sit down and realize what they have in front of them and quit worrying about the past or future.Why should i be worried about the top albums of the year ready to be released when theres allready some on the shelf waiting to be explored,when we all got 10,000 songs on our ipod and only a few get replays.We got too many toys and not enough tools so to speak.We have aquired a vast amount of "stuff" trading years of our pride and appreciation in for a few minutes of temporary satisfaction.Then its on to the next few things that we need cause our old things got boring fast.We keep hording like pack rats never really realizing we just downed 100 songs in the past few days but only having the time to really sit down listen to about 18 of them in thier entirety during the week.

Sadly the people that really need to read this will never take the time cause there too busy downloading and uploading. Or watching porn or somthin. Me personally I keep my downloading to a minimal And I always support underground artists. It only takes one asshole to upload a cd and effect an artists sales by the thousands.. What can we do. But You all have very good points and opened my eyes a little more....
