What the fuck is the diff between a mixtape and an album???

Is it the the fact that 1 is free and digi and one isnt??  Im only asking because all this talk of bad season has me in a stan frenzy and I really want a fuckin physical copy.  Im old skoo and I think Tech doing his 1st mixtape with whookid is an event of epic proportions and I really want a physical copy for the archives.  I NEED A CD!  It does not look like I will get my wish so at least explain to me the official difference please.

 Gracias in advance.

P.S.

Speaking of physical copies ,I just purchased a copy of Kanye's new album 2nite  and all the talk is true.  That album >>>>>>>>>>>>>

That is all

Im not really sure what's the difference anymore. It used to be mixtapes were rappers rapping on other peoples beats, and the reason they were free was to avoid copyright infringement. But recently it seems like they've changed and are now just less quality albums with DJs adding their mark on songs. We'll see how Bad Season turns out. And I told you Kanyes album was rediculous lol
Yeah I remember mixtapes used to be either ppl recording their fav songs off the radio all on 1 tape or djs mashing up their favorite rappers to diff beats on a single album but it seems to have evolved and now I'm kind of hazy on all the technical details

thats all i care about lol

idk buuut

Mixtapes are usually either sponsored by a DJ (like a whoo kid or kay slay mixtape with their voice tag every 8 bars) or released by the artist themselves. A lot of mixtapes don't get mastered which gives them an amateur sound.
It also gives them a chance to bypass the record labels they are signed to. Which is what a lot of artists have been doing to comp back money they've had to spend out of pocket for videos and promotions that the majors try to re-coup.
