there's two types of freestyles. one is off the top of the head like you said. another is a prepared verse that you spit to a random beat in one take. if it takes more than one try then it isn't a freestyle. so really it was a freestyle, just not the kind you are thinking off. its the same with battle rapping. some guys go off the top but others come with bars already memorized about their opponent but it is all called freestyling
