Mainstream just means popular.  That in no way means it's automatically bad.  There is so mainstream stuff I like, some I don't.  Just like there's some underground stuff I like, and some I don't.  Its that simple.

 

You can't just say "mainstream sucks" unless you've listened to every "mainstream" song ever and hated all of them lol.

I don't hate mainstream music... I like a few artists... I hate people that won't even give it a chance.... the ppl that talk shit and and dont listen to it because its popular and think if they don't listen to what everyone else is listening too they'll seem "different".

Many people on this site overestimate the words "underground" and "mainstream". They act like they are synonyms for "good" and "bad", even though the only basic difference between the two is the type of record label putting out the album. There are plenty of good underground artists, and plenty of good mainstream artists. There are also plenty of shitty ass underground artists, and plenty of shitty ass mainstream arists.

good question glad you asked this...i agree with what you are all saying about the industry and the labels.

but id like to point out another thing that contributes to mainstream hate as well.

 

for years and years since the tupac biggie era mainstream rap music has been on a steady decline and for a good reason it just sucked. most of it anywayz. but i think whats going on now is that everybody has gotten used to saying mainstream sucks the artist are gay blah blah and so on... and everyones been saying it for so long that its become second nature as an underground fan to diss any mainstream artists that gets big and comes out with something new. while ill agree most stuff out is bs still the music is changing getting different and a bit better as well as worse in some cases. i thinks people are so stuck on the thought of wanting to hate the mainstream because what its about that when someone comes out with a new style or a cool song it gets automatically disregarded as wack, stupid or something else. i feel some artists out there arent really being heard and appreciated like they should be. I wish everyone could take the time to give all the artist a good listening to before declaring their hate for them. and i dont mean listening to the songs everyone knows on the radio and what not those are obviously usually their dumbest songs. go do some research listen to the whole album, ask yourself do they make sense? am i missing something? are they unique in structure of flow, lyrical content, rhyme style, or whatever. i just wish everyone could give shit more of a chance then if you still dont like it thats cool but dont talk bullshit about an artist youve barely listened to and started with a biast opinion in the first place...

mainstream isnt a fair playin field. if every artist got the same amount of money thrown to thier projects, niggas like tech wouldve did over a mill when mich bade came out....word
