I give up, we are again wandering off the real topic but whatever. btw Immortal Technique has some pretty amazing hooks, just peep hollywood driveby or leaving the past. If those tracks don't have killer hooks than I don't know what a killer hook is.

 

The main thing I'm trying to get across to you guys is that the rap we have now has nothing to do with what it was intended for, the mainstreme is killing real hip hop. That's why you dont hear dj's scratching, graffiti, breakdancing, all that good shit that made people unite. There used to be a time it was all about being unique and original, now every rapper wants to sound the same and use the same effects. Thats where my problem comes into play with alot of these artists. Eminem is a great lyricist and a legend no questions about it, it's just that he's changed so much since he was younger. After all the shit that he went through and all the drugs that have killed millions of his braincells, he's nowhere close to where he used to be. He doesn't have to try hard, he's already accomplished everything you can think off. He's got everything he wants, consistency is deffinetly not there. Not to mention his voice is annoying as fuck now and he sounds monotone. There are tons of other great white artists, lets hop off the Em train.

We wandered off topic? I was simply replying to the things you said.

The reason why stuff like breakdancing or graffiti isn't all over the place is because you can't package that and sell it. Why would the music industry even try to fuck with that? As for DJ's scratching, that's a select audience that digs that. There isn't a huge market that they could focus on to sell records of DJ's scratching. If there was, believe me, they'd be all over it. But, turntables are the most popular instrument, outselling electric guitars. Just because you don't see graff' or breakdancing in videos doesn't mean it isn't out there. There are HUGE b-boy competitions and beautiful graffiti coast to coast and across the world. You can't always blame the industry for what is going on in commercial music. To an extent you absolutely must blame the audience. Why does bubble-gum pop bullshit rap get played on the radio? Payola may be a part of it, but the majority audiences LOVE that shit. Of course the industry is going to sell bullshit music that they know will make them millions of dollars. What's easier, finding a bunch of genuinely talented artists and making them successful...or finding any talentless nobody, buying some pre-written hooks, and slapping on the autotune?

 

You seem to forget that hip-hop became a part of an industry. Whatever it turns into was bound to happen. It has happened with every genre of music, and has been happening long before rap or hip-hop. But you don't need to only look to the mainstream for music, it's fucking everywhere. Stop bitching about these mainstream cats and find some other hip-hop.

i think auto tune is good if used in small amounts to add effect to the song.

but if you use it as your voice, that pisses me off because there are people who work so hard to sing, learn all about breathing technique and music theory, and then this dickface just puts out terrible synthetic music with auto tune on his voice constantly. and people (dumb people) credit him as a 'great singer' and sleep on people who truly are talented.

 

but i guess the public likes someone they can relate to... dipshits like that. :/
