Krizz Kaliko featured in this months XXL Magazine June 2012

He has a 3 page spread. It was a really good read with some interesting things. I'm happy to see Krizz getting some exposure. He mentions that he is planning a solo tour.

One thing I think they got wrong was they said " Krizz signed to Strange Music in 2007. The next year he released his first album called Vitiligo which sold a mediocre 37,000 copies."

The way they said it made it seem like that's what he sold first week. I don't think that album has sold 37,000 copies to date.

I don't think Tech is forcing Strange artists to have Strange features. I do agree that being on the same label as Tech definitely means that you will be over shadowed by him. I think Tech does a lot of work promoting his label mates out of kindness and knowing they are talented and wanting to make them shine. He features Strange artists on all his albums and the reason for Collabos albums are to spread other artists name's through Tech N9ne. Strange Music is a business tho. If you aren't selling then you aren't helping the label progress. I don't think Tech ever wants to drop anyone from the label but sometimes it has to be done. I think Krizz along with Kutt are trying to make a name for themselves without Tech by doing solo tours and things like that. When I go and do promo for an album, let's say Kickin' and Screamon', I asked the person have you ever heard of him. And when I tell them he is signed with Tech N9ne then they are like O yea I know tech. Krizz wants people to know who he is without Tech being in discussion.

I wonder what Krizz meant by that exactly. I wonder if maybe Krizz is kind of subliminally shedding light on the fact that working for Tech either forces you to be in his shadows or that Tech pressures Strange artists to collab even when it isn't originally the two artists idea in the first place.

But I mean I guess if thats the truth then basically Krizz wants to be more free to do what he wants to do more entirely. Maybe Tech has some indifferences with Strange artists a little because he has his own expectations for his artists kind of like how YMCMB artists are made to feature each other a lot. Maybe the shit Brotha Lynch hung talked about on DAAM was true after all.

The Headline of the article was:

"I WANT IN

Strange Music's long-serving hype-and-hook man, Krizz Kaliko makes a bid to move from the fridges to the mainstream."

Here's a part of the article:

"I'm definitely in his shadow (referring to Tech). But it's kind of crazy because, yes, I would like to be really Independent. At the same time, what we do, we do together, and it's wonderful, so I don't really want to separate from him. And it's really a difficult thing. I can't possibly be in his shadow forever."

I'll be honest with you. You are fuckin' terrible. You sound like you have emphysema. I saw you cutting yourself and shook my damn head.

@OP-8 where did you hear that about Lynch? I didn't know that. That's crazy.

But I know that Krizz and Kutt are trying to be stand-alone, solo artists and Tech wants them to be. He has said it in interviews and on his verse for Prozak's "One of These Days" he mentions it. He really wants Kutt to be big and he totally should be. Krizz is getting recognized, and rightfully so, but Kutt seems like a black sheep lately, so Red-Headed Stepchild was a fitting name for his EP. He's getting out and doing whatever features he can on underground artists tracks and being in videos, but he doesn't have an release this year for some reason, so, supposedly, that's why he isn't on the tour.

I think Krizz and Kutt couldn't be off of Strange. And Scoob has so much history with Tech that I think he can be secured on the label, although he usually wants to do what doesn't sell highly I guess. And Lynch I think has such a fan-base that he should be safe on the label. He had personal stuff going on, so he was MIA for a bit, but I'm glad he was on Welcome to Strangeland with two verses. Tech respects him highly. He even says it on "This Is Hip-Hop". Especially if he got recognized by Eminem from the song he did with Bizarre.

But I like that Krizz is getting featured in a magazine like this that people will see.
