I felt like this required it's own thread, so sorry if it's annoying. I think that the MUSIC in Klusterfuk was great, and enjoyed it alot. But my overall thoughts of the EP are hampered by the excessive amount of talking throughout it.
4 out of the 6 songs have talking spots on them. There is a total of 3:37 of talking parts on this EP. That equals an entire song, or more likely for an EP another few verses. I think this is a big sign that this EP was rushed, or even somewhat incomplete. Compare it to This Is Hop-Hip from A6&7s. Tech didn't put it on the album because Pharoahe Monch was unable to get his verse on it for whatever reason. So what'd they do? Instead of trashing a good song that already had a verse from Lynch on it, they filled that empty spot with Tech talking.
I feel maybe Tech knew he only had so much time to finish this thing before he would have had to delay it again, so instead he decided to do it in 4 days and throw in some filler bits to complete tracks that either had a missing feature (ex. Citizen Cope) or he just didn't have time to write another verse or something. I'm not saying that in a hating manner, I just think that may have been the case.
Thoughts? Feel free to throw up a TL:DR.

Permalink Reply by Evan Kettler on March 14, 2012 at 11:37pm You are clearly correct...I thought it was just common knowledge with all the filler, it's really obvious
Permalink Reply by DontKillFreddy on March 14, 2012 at 11:42pm Yeah he pulled this one out in record time but the spoken-word part on DKNY was bad fucking ass. I love it. It's eerie, weird, random, and remarkable. I haven't heard a stream of consciousness rant like that in a rap song before so I thought it was dope.
Permalink Reply by Alex M on March 15, 2012 at 12:15am I thought it just came as obvious that it was rushed and needed filler. I can't stand the bitch talking in Klusterfuk, It would be the best song on the EP if there was no talking. I also can't stand the story at the end of Awkward. And I think the fact that he says I'm not going to rap this I'm just going to tell it is because he didn't have the time to rap it and get the correct vocals. It takes some time to mix a song and get it sounding good. If he had an extra day he would have rapped that last verse.
Permalink Reply by Greg on March 15, 2012 at 1:07am It was kinda ehh at first, doesnt really bother me anymore. wut I like about the CD is the show me a god like choruses.... Like DKNY and Klusterfuk. then Krizz Kaliko on the other hook, Blur is the worst tech song to date, the album coulda done without aquelo if u ask me. Overall best song was cant stand me, tech and krizz both had it up to par on that one. How ever, the intro to klusterfuk is now my new favorite part of any tech song, that just slapped me in the face so hard. but with the talking, its wut ever. The only song I wish he didnt talk in was akward, but even then... he still had 2 good verses.... my pet peve of the CD is mainly the beats. they work... buuuut.... he shouldnt do the mayday thing again, maybe a couple songs a CD but he should stick with Seven. Best producer techs had. I also wish tech would have more young fyre beats, Like Yeah went fuckin hard! and I miss Rob Rebeck, he seemed to know wut was good too... Just some random thoughts of mine.

Permalink Reply by RL98 on March 15, 2012 at 2:30pm Tech wrote the tracks after coming back from Australia. Mayday wasn't with him.
These days, Strange Music booklets credit the producers with writing. Well, most album credits include that now, it doesn't mean they wrote the song.
Permalink Reply by Charles Weis on March 15, 2012 at 2:38pm Really? this is the first time I've ever seen them do that, there's a pretty big difference between writing a song and producing it. I'll have to look through some of the other booklets 'n see. I mean, I don't doubt that Tech wrote 100% of the lyrics, and it makes sense considering Wrek is credited on the tracks he produced, Plex his tracks, etc. I just find it odd they'd do that.

Permalink Reply by Nicholas alan Price on March 15, 2012 at 2:48pm I really like how MayDay has contributed such a huge impact on the production of strange's music. I can't believe i haven't heard of them until strange signed them. SMH at myself
I totally agree with the different style and sound to the EP and that really impressed me. It's crazy for as long as Tech has been around and all the music he has already put out, that he is able to drop new shit and for it to be originally different from what we've come to expect from Tech.

Considering this is the first and only Strange Music EP to contain six full songs I honestly didn't mind the commentary throughout Klusterfuk. The Lost Scripts Of K.O.D., Seepage, S.I.C., Red-Headed Stepchild, and No Filter all had five songs max with an extra filler track being either the intro or interlude. Would I have rather heard additional verses instead? Well obviously, but that's a given. Seepage still remains my favorite of Tech N9ne's EPs but I feel this was a worthy addition to his catalogue. Personally I enjoyed each song and even dug some of the storytelling segments, especially on Awkward lol. I've seen that a few people are upset over his new style of delivery or ¡MAYDAY!'s production on the instrumentals but in contrast I actually thought it was a refreshing change. I love the classics as much as the next fan but it's always nice to hear some completely different material, especially when it was performed in such a way as Klusterfuk (EP).
Permalink Reply by RL98 on March 15, 2012 at 3:23pm It's definitely an odd change. I think the WTSL album might be the same thing if you're going to look for it.
