The Oregon State Police gave this account:

Lewis was southbound on Highway 99W in a 2001 Ford Focus. He came up being the Martins' 2000 Audi at a high rate of speed just south of Dundee, and swung out to pass in a no-passing zone.

An oncoming vehicle forced Lewis to take evasive action. He tried to pull back in behind the Martins, but was going too fast and ended up running them off the road.

He fled the scene instead of stopping to render aid. He also fled deputy Marc Brodeur when the deputy tried to pull him over a short time later on Highway 18.

Brodeur was not aware of the collision at the time. He was simply responding to the condition of the vehicle, which was smoking badly.

According to Deputy District Attorney Michael Videtich, Lewis' Focus had sustained heavy front end damage.

"He was hanging his head out of the vehicle so he could see around the damaged hood."

When Brodeur tried to pull the Focus over, Lewis sped off westbound. During the pursuit, Brodeur learned Lewis was wanted in connection with a Highway 99W hit-and-run being handled by state police.

Lewis finally stopped in the middle of the highway, near the Dayton off-ramp. He was taken into custody there.

His blood alcohol content was almost three times the .08 marking the presumptive level of intoxication in Oregon.

Bradley and Janice Martin of Lafayette were feeling fortunate to be alive after a drunk driver slammed into their vehicle earlier this month north of McMinnville on Highway 99W.

He said his wife's recovery continues to be a struggle, but Bradley was healed well enough to attend a Monday plea and sentencing hearing resulting in a 60-day Yamhill County Jail term for 21-year-old Jesse Lewis of McMinnville.

Lewis pleaded guilty in circuit court to two counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count each of attempt to elude a police officer and driving under the influence of intoxicants. Attempt to elude is a Class C felony, the other charges Class A misdemeanors.

In exchange, two other counts of recklessly endangering and one count each of second-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and hit-and-run were dismissed as part of the plea agreement negotiated between the district attorney's office and Lewis' court-appointed attorney, Mary Biel of McMinnville.

Lewis will receive credit for time served. When he completes his term, he faces 24 months of probation and 12 months of license suspension.

He was also fined $2,000, assessed about $400 in court fees and ordered to pay restitution in an amount yet to be determined.

Think it's pretty weak of you to try and down this guy on his past. If anything you've shown me that dude has balls and should be proud to say he's done his time and learned from it. Plan backfired because dude has earned my respect. Can't say the same for you though, you seem emotionally hurt by the dude, if your problem is that bad with him you should grow your own set of balls and talk it out in person.
