Ok, so I think its fair to say most people pirate music. Period. Now you might think its a terrible thing if you don't but look at this:

This might be true if record labels paid bands all the money from their album sales – but they don’t. Artists make the overwhelming majority of their revenue from live concerts and special engagement tickets, and merchandise sales. Record companies make money off album sales. They effectively buy the artist’s work, and act as though they own the rights to distribute it, but they don’t own the artist or their ability to perform their own music. Music piracy doesn’t pirate concert tickets, that’s the job of the growing ticket-sales racket both on and off-line, which has sparked its own controversies lately as more fans (including pirates) try to support their favorite bands by paying to see them. This argument could even be taken a step further by poising a rhetorical questions: “How many people have gone to pay for tickets at a concert featuring a band that they first discovered due to pirated/redistributed material?”

Of course this wouldn't apply to independent record labels (i.e. Strange) but big record labels yes.

Thoughts?

But yeah, I kinda agree w/ Conor. And this is factual that most music artists dont make the larger half of their money off their album sales. Few artists do. In fact, some of the top artists on the radio today don't sell shit for records. They make it off merch, concerts, appearances, ect. There are very very few musicians that can sell the albums, and those are the ones with the talent, with the substance in their music, and those with the proper backing and marketing.

I don't think this has anything to do with the discussion...but i will continue to download Albums, yet, continue to suppourt the artists I am passionate about.

EDIT: And lol @ bigshots AWESOME comment.
Lol Bigshot always staying classy. Btw, This article isn't directly my opinions, but I do agree with it. And LTB you said it right. I'll keep downloading music, but I'm buying the shit I WANT to support.

a lot of the artists of today are played on the radio because they are accompanied with an rnb or hiphop feature that does sell and those are the type of songs that get marketed(t pain , mariah carey ,lil wayne, ,rihanna ,kanye west???)I dont know im tired of hearing artists as talented as fabulous talkin bout "throw it in the bag",come the fuck on fab give us another "breathe".

HOW AND THE FUCK DID WE GO FROM THIS???

I feel the same way Brother Ali does in the video blog he posted.

Downloading music, and not buying it doesn't make he music as close to you as it should, and you won't hear the same shit that you will with downloading. It's taking out a big part of what the music's about, and the relationship you feel with it.

Buy it if you like it.
