If you live in a swing state, please get out there and vote this election cycle. It's too important to just abstain.

There are too many people (Republicans) that are trying to make it harder for minorities, students, etc. to vote so it's imperative that those of us who can make sure we do. Voter ID laws address the least common form of voter fraud, yet they are the most common form of legislation used and affect and disable a large amount of people from voting on time (mainly people who would likely vote for the Democratic party). 25% of African Americans don't have Photo-Identification and approx. 17-18% of Latinos don't either. Out of state students can't use their school IDs as proper identification to vote, but NRA members can use their fire-arm permits. Seems awfully one-sided isn't it? I live in Florida (where we have a history of voter fraud) so I know I'm going to exercise my right to vote and I think this discussion board could use a new topic. Sorry to all the international users :P obviously feel free to voice your input. Now, if you live in Alabama, sorry but Romney's gonna win that state, I still say get out and vote! but I understand if you don't want to either lol. But for the people in the swing states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, etc. PLEASE vote. There's gonna be a lot of people that show up and get told no. And it doesn't help that voting is done from 7am-7pm, making it already harder for 9-5 hour working citizens. Personally I think it should be a holiday where we get the day off, but Republicans have said over and over, they don't want more people voting, they want less voters. So please, get out there.

I hate Romney and I hate Obama, so don't start raging.

If you think your vote matters watch Hacking Democracy. Its an HBO documentary, at least an hour long, but it is an interesting watch. It is all about the rigged election of 2008 when Bush "allegedly" was re-elected. Im not saying dont go out and vote, but I am saying I dont think it matters at all who you vote for. The Owners will get what they want regardless.

I think its more important to take a stand on issues at the local level. Fuck putting your faith into crooked ass politicians who dont give a shit about us.

I agree getting involved locally matters more. And as I said, if you live in a red state, your vote really won't matter, hence why this is directed at people in swing states. Don't get me wrong, we don't have a democracy anymore, haven't for a long time. 1. two-party system 2. Citizens united and Super-PACS 3. Voter-ID law restrictions suppressing people from voting so yeah, I hear ya. Both Obama and Romney are corporate whores anyway, both support the wars, both are easy on the banks, both aren't gonna change campaign finance structure, the things that matter aren't really going to change, but I mean, one choice is still clearly better than the other. That's the way it's always been imo.

Starting locally is how you make change. Some states have grassroots movements that have been making sure corporate money stays out of elections (I believe Vermont is one, but I'm not 100% sure). Also, look up Wolf-Pac. They are a fairly new organization trying to end corporate person-hood and the concept that money = speech.

Wolf-PAC is awesome, glad you brought them up.

Im glad to see like minded people on here. Corporate Personhood is a horrible fucking idea that needs to end.

Republican all day take it for what it is. That doesnt mean im voting for romney but obama is just as bad. and government isnt in place to carry people through life.

Not carry people through life, but be there when people don't have the means otherwise to support themselves temporarily. We pay taxes for reasons, things like healthcare, education, social security should be expected. That's what you get for being a law-abiding, tax-paying citizen, if you come into hardships the government should be there to help you in your time of need until you get back on your feet. If you're mooching off of the gov't all your life, yeah, that's a problem, but what percentage of people do that? the slimmest minority? Maybe if the system wasn't setup to keep the poor poor people wouldn't look for illegitimate means to survive. When you don't give someone a legitimate way to succeed SOME people are going to go the illegitimate route. We were in a recession so the amount of people abusing the system is higher than it would usually be, but again, that extreme example is probably the slimmest margin of people, I don't even know why I'm giving it thought. So I think you either misspoke or don't understand the role of welfare. We actually agree here, it's not there to carry people through their lives but that's not what it's doing to begin with lol. Ohh and I just want to throw a statistic out there, and get peoples' opinions on it, not really related but I think it should be interesting to get a Republican's point of view. There are approx 3.5 million people homeless in the United States, yet there are approx. 18.5 million empty homes. We clearly have the means to house these people, whether they have the funds or not, so, do we put profits before people and let them stay homeless, or should we let them have a house? Keep in mind that a decent percentage of the homeless have a mental illness, are veterans or are abandoned gay youth (not sure if that last one will sway a Republican or not lol, but still, think of the kids!) Just curious.

I don't know, it just doesn't make sense to me how we let a piece of paper with a given value rule our world when we can't eat it, we can't breathe it, we can't drink it. But I guess it's just too difficult to uproot our current system for people to really care, plus everyone disagrees and gets violent when they do. Smh.
