Rap-Up Reports:

The West Coast is officially back. If the forthcoming release of Snoop
Dogg’s More Malice and Game’s R.E.D. Album weren’t enough, now L.A.’s
own Ice Cube is returning to the scene with his ninth studio album.

The rapper-turned-actor has announced the title, I Am the West, and tentative release date for his first musical project since 2008’s Raw Footage. In a blog
entry dated Wednesday (Feb. 24), Cube also laments about the current
state of radio and thanks the West Coast MCs who have kept the genre
alive.

I AM THE WEST…is the name of my new record. After completing about
65% of my music, this is the perfect title. This shit is cocky, no
apologies,West Coast gangsta shit. I can’t help it. That’s what I do.
June seems too tight for a release, but July is very doable. We’ll see
how things go. Now that I have my title, I can work on the concept of
my photoshoot and artwork. I want to provide early merch before the
drop date.

For 7 or 8 years now the West Coast has been trying to do music that
appeals to the South and Mid-West. The words, “too West Coast” would be
heard throughout the industry whenever our music was played. Even by
our own dj’s. Left coast MC’s were now trying to change their sound to
cater to all the followers. We lost our way. Thank God for b-boys like
Snoop, The Game & WC for keeping the West alive, but we were all
guilty of over reaching. No more. At least not from me. I do it how I
feel it; not how I think it should be done. Radio fucked us up. I hate
the politics at radio. I don’t know who to pay to get my shit played.
Having a hot song is not enough. Ridiculous.

I AM THE WEST. It’s coming….

Keep It Gangsta

It's a good statement homie, was saying FTI, cuz at the end of what you posted, Cube was talking about how radio fucked the rap game up a bit and how it's riduculous you gotta pay to get your shit played on the radio, and before that, he going straight back to the West Caost style cause he feel they altered it to appeal to the styles like the midwest n shit. That' what FTI is all about, F that ish, don't try to please them muthaphuckaz, just do you. FTI in full effect!

Last month, west coast vet Ice Cube announced plans for his ninth studio LP, which he's calling I Am The West.

With the news out, the rapper says he's been getting a little flack over the title.

So, he took to his website, IceCube.com, to clear the air and explain.

In a blog entry posted last week, Cube says he's earned the right -- for his years in the genre -- to proclaim himself as "The West" simply because ... in his words ... "it's true."

"I knew, as soon as I named my record, I Am The West, suckas would come out the wood work and have something to say about it," Cube wrote. "First of all, it's true. I am the west. I have a few OGs in hip-hop that I show respect to for help starting the West Coast movement, like Ice-T, Dr. Dre, King Tee, DJ Pooh, DJ Quik, Too Short, MC Eiht and everybody from NWA, of course. But the rest of these MCs out here are some how some way just branches on the NWA tree. So basically, if you didn't have a record out before 1986 ... you probably can't tell me sh**."

Ice Cube also revealed that the first single from the upcoming album would be a song called "I Rep The West," which he says is currently getting mastered.

Next week, he plans to film a music video for the track, but didn't divulge any details regarding its concept, saying he'd "let you see for yourself."

The single will debut exclusively at his website sometime in the near future. At press time, it was unknown when, exactly, the track would premiere.

So far, the rapper says I Am The West has no guest appearances. But, Cube says that may change in the coming months during recording. However, he made it clear that he's not actively reaching out for any collaborations.

"It has to be organic. I don’t do collabos just to do them," the rapper explained.

Beats from Dr. Dre? Not yet. Cube says he plans to ask the super producer for some soon though.

In his blog he also answered a few questions. Below are a few:

* New Westside Connection? Nothing planned. But just for the record. I own the rights. I put Mack-10 in the Connect gang, he didn't put me in. That's my sh**.

* Mid-West tour? Working on a promotional tour that'll take me to the Mid-West.

* Mixtape? I'm working on a mixtape with Crazy Toones for my sons OMG & Doughboy. They spit fire. Look for them on the home page of the site in a few days.I'll never be on Crib.No beats by Terrence Martin on this record.
Tech on a track possibly ?
