The California Assembly has passed a bill that would allow video recorders to be installed on
vehicles' dashboards. State law currently
prohibits dashboard devices that may obstruct a driver's view.
The bill is supported by companies that hire teams of drivers. They want to ensure their employees are driving safely and use the cameras to help determine fault in an accident.
The bill's author, Republican Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher of San Diego, said companies
that use the recorders in other states have reduced their accident
claims.
The devices could record a vehicle's speed, where it travels, whether the driver wore a seatbelt and when the brakes were applied before an accident.
The bill, AB1942, passed the Assembly 49-0 and now moves to the Senate.

And it's not really violating our privacy if it is in work vehicles only. If you're on the clock then you're the company's liability.

And i dont think it said it would only be in work vehicles, it just says companies support the idea. It would be in all vehicles

Permalink Reply by Nick James on May 19, 2010 at 7:24pm Yeah but the ACLU is going to make sure there are stipulations to this. . They think....
The bill should state explicitly that the recorder data
belongs to the vehicle owner.
An employee driver should be given the opportunity to consent
or refuse to consent to the use of the event data recorder in
the vehicle he or she drives.
The vehicle owner should have the ability to disable the video
event recorder and the ability to turn it off and on.
Data collection should be restricted to 30 seconds prior to
and after the event that triggers the video event recorder.
And most of the ones that are in affect already are on a loop until there is either a quick stop or an accident has actually occured
Permalink Reply by J9X on May 19, 2010 at 7:34pm Even with stipulations they will find a way around those if they want to. If the recorder belongs to the owner then why are we paying for their law??. If you can refuse then its the same as refusing to take a drug test. Its a fail or in any case you would automatically be at fault if you didn't have the recorder. And if you can turn it off then whats the point of even having it in the car.?? The one thing i do agree with is the 30 second loop.

Permalink Reply by Dukecityspecialist on May 19, 2010 at 7:34pm Thats bullshit because they can get all the info they need from a box that doesn't require a camera. Its another way for Obama to get into our personal lives and make it easier for world war 3. But they really do have a device that records all that info without the camera.

Permalink Reply by Nick James on May 19, 2010 at 7:37pm Are they really going to come and put it in every single car in california? I doubt it. If they do I will just go to nevada and buy a car. lol I really don't see this happening anyways.
